Tadd and I decided this was the year we wanted to teach Jakobi how to ski. So we took her for the 1st time yesterday. It was an absolutely beautiful day. The sun was shining and it was about 36 degrees. Jakobi was really excited to go until we got to Grandma Elaine's house to drop off Braxton... then she changed her mind (just like any normal 5 yr old girl, right?). Once she was at Grandma's she wanted to stay at Grandma's. Apparently, Grandma is more fun than Mom and Dad. Go figure?! So Grandma helped bribe her with gumballs. Yes, bubble gum is just one of Jakobi's favorites.
So we finally get her on the mountain, which for a little girl is quite the feat. She decided her boots were too tight, then she didn't want to climb the huge mountain to the lodge, and at first was scared of the magic carpet. Whew!! Just in case you didn't know, Jakobi sometimes exaggerates things.
The first run was interesting. I tried skiing with her inbetween my legs. She wanted to lean on me instead of learning how to balance on her own. So then we decided to have her ski from me to Tadd and vice virsa. That worked so much better. She learned to build her self confidence and before we knew it she was going farther and farther without our help. Once she knew how to stop and start Tadd and I decided she was ready for the chair. We thought she might be scared of how high the chairs were from the ground but she did great! About half way down Milk she decided she was tired and wanted to go pick up brother. She had been skiing for about 3 hours so we weren't surprised. We were so proud of her. We thought she caught on fast. Of course, as her parents, we couldn't be anything but proud!! On the way home it was rather quiet because as soon as she was in her sit she crashed and slept all the way to Grandma's. On successful day down, hopefully many more to go!
